Dear LA Winds Colleagues:

I hope you’re having a wonderful, rewarding and relaxing summer. Let me once again thank you for a spectacular 2018-2019 season and for your hard work in making our challenging July 6th concert in Culver City such a success!

We’ll hold our first rehearsal for the upcoming 2019-2020 season just about 1 month from now. The concert schedule –with dates and locations- is outlined on our website. It promises to be one of our more interesting seasons as we join forces with Valley Opera and Performing Arts, the San Fernando Valley Master Chorale, The San Fernando Valley Children’s Chorus and the SFVSO for some unique and exciting programs.

Our first rehearsal will be Monday, Sept. 9 at 7:15 pm in the Band room at AC Stelle Middle School.

Note the time change. We will start at 7:15 pm and end at 9:30 pm. Please adjust your schedules accordingly so you can be ready to rehearse at 7:15 pm for all our evening rehearsals. The room will be opened at 6:30 pm for set-up and warm-up purposes. I’m assuming the air conditioning will be fully functional!

Here’s the program for the Oct. 13 concert, “Music from the Stage and Screen”
(You’ll be getting your music via dropbox in about a week)

Overture to the Barber of Seville, Rossini
At the Movies, Sousa
Selections from Wicked, Schwarz (featuring Dylan and Shira, singers)
Highlights from Les Miz, Schonberg (featuring singers)
Lord of the Rings (Gandalf), de MMeij

Light Cavalry Overture, von Suppe
Prelude to Act 3 & Entry of the Mastersingers from Die Meistersinger, Wagner
Highlights from the Sound of Music, Rodgers/Hammerstein (featuring singers)
Selections from Star Wars, Williams

It will be great to perform some new works, revisit some favorites from the past and work with some first-rate singers from what was formerly known as Center Stage Opera.

A number of you, myself included, need to send in your Band Season Subscription forms to receive your discount tickets to all 5 subscription concerts and our Tex-Mex Barbecue. Band ticket packages are $125 each or 2 for $200. Download the subscription form from the website and simply write “Band Member” at the top when you mail it in with your check.

As we prepare the budget for the coming season, let me remind you how important it is for the Band’s financial health that you pay your yearly tax-deductible “Band Member Contribution” of $100. You can pay this by cash, check (made out to Los Angeles Symphonic Winds) or credit card (via PayPal). We’d like to have all the funds collected by the 2nd rehearsal of the season (September 16). See Steve Woloshin (trumpet) at the first rehearsal if this presents a hardship for you.

I look forward to seeing you next month as we begin another exciting and musically rewarding LA Winds season.

See you on Sept. 9!

Steve Piazza, Artistic Director, Los Angeles Symphonic Winds
